Meet Viktor

August 11th, 2008  |  Published in Art

Viktor takes a vector image and draws it using chalk on a blackboard. His older brother Hektor blew me away when I was in studying: I’m quite intrigued with Digital to Analogue output, especially using robotics. Both machines are something I’d love to one day have, or ideally build, and leave running in my house. If I had to have a feature wall, this would be it. You can go see Viktor in action at the exhibition ‘A Recent History of Writing and Drawing’ at the Institute of Contemporary Art, London. Jürg Lehni, we salute you.

Giodarno x 12 International Artists - World Without Strangers

August 11th, 2008  |  Published in Product

Giordano is kind of Hong Kong’s Gap, and they’re tying in with the whole Olympics thing and doing a Uniqlo, collaborating with 12 different artists on a range of tees. The actual designs aren’t too bad I’ll give them that, although it’s yet to see whether the stock quality is any good. I was clothed in a bit of Giordano when I was a kid and from what I remember it wasn’t really anything to phone home about. You can check out the designs, no wait scratch that, they’re a bit contrived aren’t they.

We love dots - Gallery 1950 x Porter “Enamel Series”

August 11th, 2008  |  Published in Product

Hey hey, finally I think the whole micro-trend of polka dots on everything has kind of died out, and we can once again emerge from the shadows are profess our love for little repeated circles. This year’s collaboration between Gallery 1950 and Porter features both dots and enamel, the same enamel perhaps used on the Head Porter Enem series featured earlier this year? Probably not, from the photos this looks more like regular patent. Or maybe we should just grow up …

Photofit - Is Bush Guilty?

August 8th, 2008  |  Published in Film

Photofit: a short film for Reprieve produced by This Is Real Art with music by Massive Attack. The film was made entirely in-house at This Is Real Art using a 1970s police photofit identity kit, pretty neat stuff. Creative Review’s got a whole write up, good stuff, good cause.

Watch it.

Mario Ambrosius - Ma Poupée Japonaise

August 8th, 2008  |  Published in Art

An old series by Artist Mario Ambrosius. Love how the the model doll is photographed as though she had just been dropped, but especially because the artist has managed to take the concept out of the whole cliched lolita doll aesthetic. Be sure to view the whole gallery.

8″ Treeson

August 8th, 2008  |  Published in Product

That’s too harsh, we just did on order and the very next day, Crazy Label announces that the 8″ Treeson is now available on their online store. These things are too cute. For the record we bought the Treeson and Other Stories Bookset (sold out) and a Baby Treeson is Pastel Pink. Adorable.

They’ve got a couple of sites for some reason, so check both of them out.

Monocle Goes Street - News Stand in Fitzrovia, London

August 8th, 2008  |  Published in Magazine, Store  |  1 Comment

No way, this is crazy! Can’t wait to see shots of the inside; We’ve got a love/hate relationship with Monocle at the All Tomorrow / Concrete™ Office, but Monocle’s design and layout never fail to reel us back in, and surely the interior of this branded news outlet will not fail to disappoint. What they’ve done is partner with a discerning establishment and applied a branding that stands for nothing short of quality, and they’re looking to build other similar outlets around the globe. Certainly see this one working in Melbourne rather than Sydney.

Nike’s “Beautiul Losers” Dunk Collection

August 7th, 2008  |  Published in Product

Been totally over Dunks, but these are really something. Apart from their significance, I love the all-over print vibe, but of course they’re pretty unattainable. I’m not even going to try to summarise, pop over and read up.

French launches online store

August 7th, 2008  |  Published in Store

Artist French, known for his death metal illustrations, just launched a new web store. Some next level stuff, be sure to bookmark this one kids.

Burn Berlin Burn

August 7th, 2008  |  Published in Store

With a girl on the ground, we’re being fed all sorts of goodies from Berlin. And while she’s looking for a gig to run with, we’re being shown around by proxy. Apartment Berlin has a really cute website I must say, and Andreas Murkudis looks quite intense.
